Mortar Rakes & Tuckpointing Tools
Products
Mortar rake, tuckpointing tool, mortar raking bit, brick joint raker – different names for the same job: removing old lime or cement mortar from brick and block joints before repointing. The PRODIAMANT Carbide Mortar Rake (series name MORTAR MOLE) threads straight onto any 5/8"-11 angle grinder and rakes joints with three tungsten carbide cutting edges and a 1" (26 mm) working depth – no adapter, no drill needed.
Which width do I need?
Match the bit to the joint: 1/4" (6 mm) for thin lime joints in historic brickwork, 5/16" (8 mm) and 3/8" (10 mm) for standard brick joints, 1/2" (12 mm) for block and wide stone joints. Because the carbide wheel is narrower than the joint, it clears the mortar without biting into the brick face.
Mortar rake bit vs. diamond tuck point blade
A carbide mortar rake works best in soft to medium mortar and gives you a full-depth, clean joint in one pass. Diamond tuckpointing blades are for very hard modern mortar and long straight runs. Contractors keep both on the truck; for most repointing and restoration work the carbide rake is the faster and more forgiving tool. Available singly and in 3- and 10-packs with volume pricing.
